Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County’s Sumner Association of Realtors (SAR) Build is made possible through generous donations from local real estate brokers, their agents, affiliates and the Sumner Association of Realtors organization through donated proceeds of several SAR annual fundraising events. The fundraising goal for this build is $50,000 in cash and in-kind donations of building materials and resources.

SAR Build Fund Raising Events

SAR hosts the Haunted Hustle 5k held at the Streets of Indian Lake and the SAR Golf Tournament at Bluegrass Yacht and County Club each year. SAR generously donates the proceeds from the 5K proceeds and a portion of the Golf Tournament proceeds toward the SAR Build each year. In addition to these gifts, individual SAR brokers, agents and affiliates join together to raise the additional funds needed to meet or exceed the $50,000 fundraising goal for the SAR Build. Information about both of these events will be posted closer to the event dates on the HFHSC website.

Meet the 2019 SAR Partner Family

Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County is pleased to introduce our 2019 SAR Build Partner Family, Lamar Cerda and her children Joel, Taylor and Issac of Gallatin. Lamar began the process to quality for a Habitat home more in 2018.

Lamar, who has worked at Simpson Strong Tie for more than two years, and has already completed nearly 180 of her 200 sweat equity required as part of the home ownership program since Habitat homeownership application was approved.

Lamar and her family currently live in government housing in Gallatin close to her children’s schools. Lamar is looking forward to owning her own home and the kids are looking forward to having their own rooms. Taylor, her 8-year old daughter, is excited to finally be able to have her own pet. “I really want a kitten,” she shared with a big grin on her face. Plus, she states she wants her room to be pink!

Habitat homes aren’t free. They are affordable. When the Cerda’s take ownership of their new home in late December 2019, Lamar will receive a zero percent mortgage with a monthly payment she can afford. Construction for the Cerda home will be Fall, 2019.
