Habitat for Humanity Sumner County, Tennessee Inc. offers a Critical Home Repair Program for local homeowners, in addition to its homeownership program for families wanting to purchase a new home with an affordable mortgage.

Families applying for home repairs must demonstrate need, the ability to pay, and a willingness to partner. Families who are interested in these programs must go through steps much like those involved in a new build:  they must submit a Home Repair Application, then go through the Homeowner Selection Process, and be willing to contribute ”sweat equity hours”  as determined by length of the project. The contractor for HFHSC. must approve the feasibility of the project. If approved, a project budget is set and terms of payment are established and agreed upon by both the family and HFHSC.

Critical home repair means that the property must have at least one critical need. Examples include unsafe roof or floor, lack of heat, electrical and plumbing hazards, foundation issues, floor and wall replacement, ramps or accessibility needs, and/or interior/exterior work needed to maintain home.

The Critical Home Repair Program serves qualifying seniors (60+), persons with disabilities, and veterans.  This program is only for residents of Sumner County.
