Rooted in Purpose: Josh’s Journey to Homeownership

For Joshua Lewis, home is more than just a place—it’s a promise of peace, security, and legacy. A devoted father to two boys, Jalen (14) and Orion (7), Josh has always centered his life around providing his children with the kind of stability he didn’t always have.

A carpenter by trade and an artist at heart, Josh is deeply grounded in creativity, craftsmanship, and community. He’s the kind of father who teaches with his hands—fixing, building, and exploring nature with his sons by his side. From attending football games to traveling with his oldest to art museums, every experience is a lesson in love, resilience, and curiosity.

But Josh’s path to stability hasn’t been easy. After dealing with unsafe living conditions, repeated maintenance issues, and health concerns caused by mold in his previous home, Josh knew he had to make a change. The rising cost of rent and declining neighborhood safety made it clear—he needed a permanent solution.

That solution came in the form of a sign. Literally. Driving past a Habitat for Humanity sign one day, Josh decided to take a chance. That decision would shape the course of his family’s future.

Since partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County, Josh has not only helped build his home—he’s built a deeper connection with the community. Whether volunteering his time or using his talents to support the Habitat ReStore, Josh pours himself into everything he does.

“To my family, having a safe and stable environment means everything,” he shares. “It allows me to focus on my health, to grow professionally, and most importantly, to give my sons a home they can always return to.”

Josh looks forward to starting new traditions with his boys—hosting game nights, sharing meals, teaching them how to build and repair in their own garage.

“This home is our investment in a better future,” Josh says. “It’s where we’ll grow—not just in space, but in love, peace, and possibility.”

Josh’s story is a testament to what’s possible when determination meets opportunity—and when a community comes together to build something that lasts.
