For Michelle; affectionately known as Birdie, life has been about perseverance, faith, and quiet miracles. A single mother living with a disability, Michelle has spent the past eight years working at Union Elementary, dedicating herself to supporting her family and giving back to her community. Despite facing significant financial hardship and living in a space that lacked the safety and stability every family deserves, Michelle never wavered in her love or strength.

With every challenge, she modeled resilience for her daughter, Katelyn, teaching her to face adversity with courage and heart. From a young age, Katelyn stepped up to help support their household, working long hours to ease the burden and stand beside her mother. Together, they held tight to hope, refusing to let their circumstances define their future.

Their turning point came when a cousin introduced them to Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County. It was the opportunity Michelle had long dreamed of: a chance to own a home where love could flourish and peace could finally settle in. Katelyn wasted no time in taking action, determined to help her mom build the future they had both fought so hard for.

Now, thanks to the support of Habitat and the community that surrounds them, Michelle and Katelyn are stepping into a new chapter, one filled with laughter, security, and new beginnings. Their future home is more than just walls and a roof; it’s a symbol of everything they’ve overcome and all the joy that lies ahead.
